During my first year of A level photography I was introduced to the photographer and make up artist Rankin and Alex Box, throughout the next year or so of the course I have used Rankin as being one of my main inspirations to my work, as I love his new and innovative ways of creating things that most people would not deem as being beautiful, beautiful. I also like his way of acting like a chameleon, being able to photograph anything and everything, whilst putting his own personal style to the shoot.
As for Alex Box, this woman is A-MAZ-ING, words cannot describe how much of a talented artist this woman is, she is magnificent! I become obsessed with the alternative high fashion make up looks she creates and how they appear so surreal, with help from Rankin and his photography skills. Later I soon learned that she helped establish the British cult make up brand, Illamasqua (my friends and I like to call it Llama for short). This brand is AMAZEBALLS, and if anyone reading this hasn't had a peek at it then you must! They also support a good cause, the Sophie Lancaster [ILLAMASQUA | OFFICIAL] fund, which supports a tragic story :( .
Back onto Alex Box... and other related stuff....
Well I start to watch RuPauls drag race season 4 with Sharon Needles. ALL HAIL MS NEEDLES... and I soon became fascinated with drag make up and the way that it transforms the user into something else, more of a beautiful inhuman creature. I then began experimenting with different looks and all came to all I based my last year exam on make up, and created a little blurb book which can be found... here >>> http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3270241
basically it's a book about the thought of there being a third sex.
Anyways, I then decided I wanted to wear make up, for a few reasons which included my obsession with it, insecurities and my enjoyment of applying it.
The first thing that I bought was the MAC Matchmaster SP15 foundation in the lightest shade possible, 1.0. The MAC woman told me to match it with my chest and neck and because they are pale then my face should be too. My mother wasn't too pleased about it, as she thought it was too pale and made me look like i was wearing make up. Which is fair enough, up in the North East of England the civilians and the normal people aren't as exposed to out of the normal things such as men wearing makeup etc, as people are in other areas of the country.
I love this foundation, its high coverage at a half decent price! After only using drugstore foundations such as dream matte mousse, I thought it was time to splurge out on something that is more high end expecting it will last longer. It certainly does, I only need one and half pumps onto the back of my hand using a MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush I dab it onto my face and then swirl it around in little circular motions and it covers pretty fine. I would say that my skin is Dry/ Normal depending how good of a day I am having, but I always make sure I prime my skin before application.
The good thing about this foundation is that it matches your skin! Yes it certainly does do that, I bought the lightest shade 1.0 and it matches my neck, however my face is slightly more tanned compared to my neck so it evens out perfectly. What this foundation does is that it almost warms to your skin so that it selects the best shade possible so that it makes you look flawless without looking like you even wear make up. I suppose there are the exceptions, like if your tanned and you pick my shade, you may come out looking like a clown, so i would definitely suggest trying out a few shades at your MAC store/ Counter.
Would I recommend and buy this product again? Yes I certainly would, even though it is pricey its worth the price tag!
I've gone a bit crazy with foundations this year I must admit, but honestly you can never have too many! I have two main ones for a nighttime and going out, just to give me that extra flawless coverage, and then for a day time I have another two which even though are high coverage they don't seem to be as high coverage as my other two.
Introducing the Light Liquid foundation in shade 115 ( Yes another ghostly white shade, possibly three of pure white ) I actually bought this in the Illamasqua sale for £10, BARGAIN EY!? Well I start off the same as when I use my mac foundation by applying a small amount on my hand and then using that almost like an artists pallet.
An obvious pro about this is the smell, oh holy macaroons! It's like birthday cake in a bottle and for us ladies on the D word (Diet) it's like the devils temptation in a bottle, but I could bottle it up and just wear it, it's that amazing.
At £10 you can't go wrong, but I know it has been put back into the full price selling products, so I'm unsure if it's a tad expensive for an everyday wear foundation in which I only need a sheer application foundation as I have very little to no blemishes.
YES! Another Pale foundation for Thomas in shade 2.0, even though I have yellow undertones, I bought the pink undertone shade as I feel it neutralises the yellowness in my skin, which is a factor that I am forever paranoid about. Thank my 'Homer Simpson Syndrome' where I will suddenly turn an ill shade of yellow. And no it isn't Jaundice or another disease, the doctors do not know. Never mind I have my trusty foundation pals to help me hide it ;)!
I love this foundation but you only need the TINIEST amount to cover the whole of your face, honestly trust me! I had the make up artist at my local Illamasqua counter apply it to my face, and honestly I thought she put too much on, I thought it seemed caked. However I still went ahead and bought it. I used it the first time the other night and I can honestly say HD eat your heart out. It definitely makes your skin look high definition, flawless perfect THE LIST GOES ON! But I only applied a small amount you see, and I still came out looking like a porcelain doll!
I feel that with these products I do have to set it using Illamasqua's loose powder 010, but I don't mind if it makes me look fabulous then so be it!
Would I buy it again!? Yes certainly, I get 20% off my Illamasqua orders having a professional account for my studies, so I don't mind paying £21.50, but I would still be more than happy enough to pay £25.00, as I know for a fine fact that its a foundation that will last!
Imagine... A hot summer day AND you're sweaty! What do you do? Wear your normal foundation which adds more liquid onto your face? NO! I wear Powder Foundation from Illamasqua in shade 135 (YES GUYS A DARKER SHADE!). I wear this to work, because some times running around the shop floor, a girl can sweat a bit too much! So I use this to almost counter act the sweat, I'm not sure if it works but in my head it does and my skin still looks almost flawless. A day time flawless shall we say?
In comparison to the other 3 foundations I have bought, I would say this is my least favourite. YES! LEAST! WHY? Because I feel like I loose a lot of product when I apply it to my face because there seems to be a lot of wasted residue around the sides, which obviously makes me sad.
How much did I pay you say? £10, yes can't be that bad. But I don't think I'd pay the full price, it can sometime look a bit too chalky, which is why i don't set it personally. I've heard people using a powder foundation to set their liquid foundation, which is something I might try in future.
