Gently exfoliate your lips to remove any dry or dead skin by using a wash cloth.
2. Know your formulas!

There's plenty of brands that do a range of formulas that can get a bit confusing at times. Most high end brands will tell you what kind of formula it is, where as drugstore lipsticks only some times tell you! So here's what to look out for! I will be using MAC as an example as they have the biggest range I know of.
Amplified Cremes - These are full opacity lipsticks, that go on like a creme when applied, but dry to a semi- matte finish. They tend not to dry your lips out and last for around 5hrs.
Cremesheen - These are a medium pigmented lipstick that can be applied and built up to create a more opaque shade. These go on creamy and don't dry your lips. However they last 4hrs!
Glaze - Like the title says they are like a glaze lipstick, it's a sheer lipstick with a glossy finish. ( Not My fav )
Lustre - Sheer that can be built to med. opacity, they have a glossy finish, but can sometimes dry your lips out. 3-4 hrs wear time.
Matte - Full opacity! MAC do a really good range of reds in these colours, they dry fully matte and tend to last 7 hrs. The formula isn't too dry, but some are drier than others. (my personal fav)
Satin - These are like a creamier version of a matte lipstick, that goes on creamy and then tends to dry matte. These sometimes can be drying on the lips!
The key is to experiment and see which kind you like the best! I find glossier finish lipsticks come across to me as being fun and girly, where as even though Matte lipsticks can come across as girly and fun, I think they are a more serious lipstick.
4. To intensify a lipstick, wear a lip pencil underneath!

Lining your lips will mask your natural lip colour, so that when you apply the lipstick on top it takes a form of a colour that is similar (or the same) to the one in the bullet. Where as if you applied it without it could look a different colour, due to your lip colour. Another reason why lining is good, is that it tends to stop bleeding, and increases the time the lipstick lasts on your lips.
4. Brush Brush BRUSH!
I know! It seems to be a daunting thing, especially on a morning which is the time where you let somethings suffer for that extra ten minutes in bed. However applying lipstick with a brush will perfect that pout and make the lines appear neater and professional looking. Lip brushes come in various shapes and sizes, retractable, to minis. Here's two of my favs! Cheap and cheerful, to MAC. Enough said ;)
5. Blot those babies!
Blot between applications to remove any excess lipstick. Try not to place inbetween your lips and press down as this will create an uneven application.
If you blot until there's a lighter colour of the lipstick on the lip, that is what we call a stain, and this should last longer than lipstick. However the opacity will not be the same.
And make sure not to get any tissue stuck on the lipstick, it won't look very attractive when talking to a hotty-la-motty ;).
6. Don't wear your lipstick on your teeth!
It's not very nice when you get lipstick on your teeth, as it looks like you've had a nice bloody steak for dinner. Not attractive.
Put your index finger inside your mouth and then gently pull it out. This should remove any unwanted lipstick that is inside your mouth... BE GONE DRACULA!
7. Highlight your cupids bow!
The cupids bow, is the middle of your upper lip. The light reflecting particles of pearly pencils or creams will attract more attention to those pretty little things on your lips! Also a lighter concealer can be used.

8. Hello stranger ;) Gloss those lips!
The shine of the gloss will help your lips look fuller! If you don't like the sticky feeling then use a drop in the centre of your lips.
Like lipsticks there are various textures, effects and colours of course! If you are wearing a matte lipstick, it might be wise to stay away from glosses, as it defeats the object of wearing a matte lipstick. Unless you buy a matte lipgloss (they're real).
9. DAHLING, welcome to the swinging club for lips! Lets go nude ;)!
Don't be a afraid to go nude! Try a shade a shade or two darker than your natural lip colour.
For pale ladies, stick with pink shade nudes and for those who with beautiful dark or olive skin will want to reach for a sandy shaded nude.
10. Stop clowning around and know your shade darling!
You walk into the store and it's staring at you from the back, a luscious acid pink. You love pink and this is your colour! But hunny please! Does it suit you? Let's learn which colours match what skin colour, but remember these aren't set in stone, and it is up to you to experiment!
Fair skin are best going with blue- red hues, where as a girl with olive skin is flattered by an orange-red, where as darker skin tones look fabulous with burgundy red/ pinks.
